Abstract
The present study aims to examine the effects of images of older people on sensitivity to elder abuse and moderating effects of subjective economic status. To do this, descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed by using questionnaires collected from 206 workers aged 20~55. In all respondents, there was a high level of sensitivity to elder abuse. Only psychological image was higher than median among images on older people. Physical and social images were generally lower than the median. Multiple regression analysis suggested that sensitivity to elder abuse was higher when adults¡¯ psychological image on older people is positive, while physical image differed according to groups via interaction with subjective economic status. If economic status is particularly ¡°low¡± based on the ¡°median¡±, it was interacted with physical image and gave adverse effects on sensitivity to elder abuse. As physical image on older people is higher, sensitivity to elder abuse declined. This study proposed practical and policy implications to enhance adults' sensitivity to elder abuse based on the above results.
